Dr. Castillo Sumi is a licensed psychologist in both California and Hawaii. She has worked extensively with children and adolescents in various aspects of care.  Through her consulting practice, Dr. Castillo Sumi works with school districts to implement School-Wide Positive Behavior Supports. 

Prior to her work with educational organizations, she was the founding Clinical Director of The May Institute Pediatric Specialty Center in San Jose, Calif.  The Center provides outpatient evaluation, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental and learning disabilities, social-emotional and behavioral issues and mental health problems in the community and schools.    In addition, she has served as Executive Director of California Community Opportunities, a nonprofit organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities;  Corporate Director of Outcomes and Quality Assurance at EMQ Children & Family Services, where she evaluated the effectiveness of the agency’s programs and helped programs improve services accordingly; Best Practices Specialist, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division, State of Hawaii Department of Health where she developed statewide policy and practice guidelines regarding evidence-based treatment for various psychiatric disorders and best practices in mental health for youth in the State System of Care (including social services, mental health, education, and juvenile justice).

Dr. Castillo Sumi received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Pacific Graduate School of Psychology at Palo Alto University in Palo Alto, Calif. She has held teaching positions at Santa Clara University, Chaminade University in Hawaii, California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, and Antioch University, Los Angeles. She previously conducted research in the areas of wraparound services and positive behavior supports within a residential setting. Her research has been published in The American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, the National Association of Dual Diagnosis (NADD) Bulletin, and Ethology and Sociobiology. She has presented in many professional forums, including American Psychological Association, Asian American Psychological Association, California Mental Health Advocates for Children and Youth, California Wraparound Institute, and the California Community Mental Health Association.



Shannon Pinesett

Shannon has 6 years of experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. She has served as a Teaching Assistant, Behavior Therapist, Lead Therapist, and as a Program Supervisor. She has extensive training in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis and Discrete Trial Teaching in addition to the implementation of the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). She also has experience working in many environments, including in-home, community-based, and in educational settings.

Shannon is currently completing her Masters in Teaching with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis with the intent to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from California State University, Dominguez Hills.

Anna is currently a fourth year doctoral student at Palo Alto University with an emphasis in child, adolescent, and family treatment. Anna has worked with adults dealing with issues such as depression and anxiety at the Gronowski Clinic in Los Altos. In the last three years, Anna has worked with children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder in schools and clinic-based setting. In addition, she implements evidence-based practices in working with children with Emotional Disturbance.

Anna received her undergraduate degree from UC Davis in Psychology and Communication. During that time she worked as a research assistant in a child development lab focusing on the effects of child maltreatment. Additionally, she worked in academic advising where she helped provide support and academic advising to undergraduate students.
